....Nazca Booby.

(Sula granti) recently split into a seperate species from Masked Booby (S. dactylatra)
Notice the bill is orange compared to Masked. Eye perhaps slightly more orange as well.
Remember this bird? The single bird was here from my arrival in early September and was last seen in mid-October.
Again, this is the first and only Nazca Booby record for the state of Hawai'i, and has been on Tern I. off and on since sometime in 2005.
This species ranges from the eastern Pacific and off the coasts of South America, Central America, and north to the west coast of Mexico.
Nice to have it back. Even if it is just the one, while the Masked are paired up and just beginning to lay eggs.
All by itself on an island of several thousands.
